STUDIO HAMU

Istanbul based design studio exploring form through material transformation

Studio Hamu is an Istanbul-based, material-led design studio working across material development, collectible objects and spatial collaborations. The studio explores how materials can gain new value through contemporary design, creating long-lasting works for contemporary spaces.

Bringing contemporary craft together with material research and hands-on production, Hamu brings contemporary craft together with material research and hands-on production, developing its own paper-based composites from discarded paper. By allowing time, process and the character of the material to shape each piece, the studio treats longevity, repairability and the reintegration of production remnants as integral parts of its design process.

Founders

Studio Hamu was founded in Istanbul by industrial designers Elif Türkyılmaz and Yağmur Gizem Bayrak. Their shared practice is shaped around material research, contemporary craft and a direct engagement with making.
